American Red Cross offering lifesaving skills training next week

The American Red Cross Illinois Capital Area Chapter will be offering multiple training opportunities at the chapter office at 1045 Outer Park Dr. during the week of Oct. 3 - Oct. 9. These include Adult CPR/AED, Infant & Child CPR/AED, CPR For the Healthcare Provider & Professional Rescuer Review, and a Lifeguard CPR/AED Review.

Adult CPR/AED training will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The course teaches participants how to respond and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults as well as how to use an automated external defibrillator on a victim during sudden cardiac arrest. The cost is $70 per person and offers a two-year certification.

Infant & Child CPR/AED training will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6. This class teaches skills in rescue breathing and CPR specific to infants up to 12 months of age and children one to eight years old. The cost is $70 per person.

A CPR For the Healthcare Provider and Professional Rescuer Review class will also take place from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. This is refresher course for nurses, EMTs, and other emergency responders. Participants are required to bring a pocket mask or purchase one from the Red Cross to participate. The cost is $90 per person.

A Lifeguard CPR/AED Review class will also take place from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.on Saturday, Oct. 8. The course is designed to be a refresher course in CPR/AED skills for certified lifeguards. Participants are required to bring a pocket mask or purchase one from the Red Cross to participate. The cost is $90 per person.
