Holistic healing

In partnership with a local holistic healing and new age business Visions by JDR, Travis Taylor, a local artist and supporter of holistic healing, is organizing a "Holistic healing and new age bazaar" from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17 and 18, at the Route 66 Hotel and Conference Center at 625 E. Saint Joseph St., which will highlight the talents of holistic healers and alternative health care practitioners and psychics.

SIU professor receives grant from the U.S. Army

Daotai Nie, Ph.D., associate professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology at SIU School of Medicine and a member of SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute, was awarded a three-year grant from the U.S. Army totaling $433,409. 

Human Services health fair scheduled for Wednesday

SIU scientist receives grant to develop a vaccine for herpes

A scientist at Springfield's Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has received a $400,000 federal grant to develop a vaccine for genital herpes. William Halford, associate professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology, is principal investigator for the project, which recently received a two-year grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.  

St. John's Children's Hospital introduces interactive program

DECATUR -- Kohl's Department Store and St. John's Children's Hospital have unveiled a new interactive education program designed to teach children about the importance of exercise and proper nutrition.

Parent Place seeking diaper donations

The Parent Place, a child abuse prevention agency that operates a diaper pantry for families in need, is severely short of donations. Anyone interested in donating diapers can do so from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday until Thursday, or online at www.tppos.org.

SIU Med students complete mentored research experiences
