The American Red Cross Illinois Capital Area Chapter will be offering multiple training opportunities at the chapter office at 1045 Outer Park Dr. during the week of Oct. 3 - Oct. 9.

New support group started for adults with Asperger's/autism

A new support and self-advocacy group for adults with Asperger's/autism is forming in Springfield. The group will be open to anyone 18 and older who has any autism spectrum diagnosis, or who suspects they may be on the autism spectrum, has not been diagnosed, and wants to learn more about it. There will be no charge for participation in this group.

Exercise classes offered to cancer patients

Cancer treatments can cause a variety of side effects, including a loss of strength and energy. "Exercising, using weights and improving core strength and balance will help to minimize treatment side effects and increase endurance and energy," said Ellen Brotzman-DeSart, education coordinator for the Side-by-Side program at Simmons Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University in Springfield.

Basketball camp will also focus on diabetes management
