Electronics will be collected for recycling from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Computers, cameras, monitors and other equipment will be among the materials that will be accepted by Vintage Tech Recyclers of Plainfield.

People can bring the materials to the fairgrounds by entering Gate 11 and proceeding to Lot 21, according to the Sangamon County Department of Public Health. There is no charge.

Household appliances, such as microwave ovens and refrigerators, won't be accepted. Dropoffs from businesses also won't be accepted.

Volunteers are still needed, said Sangamon County recycling coordinator Angela Harris. She can be reached at 535-3100, ext. 255.

Electronic equipment also can be recycled year-round by dropping it off at BLH Computers Inc. at 1832 Stevenson Drive. Residents of Springfield, Grandview, Williamsville and Southern View are not charged, but residents elsewhere in Sangamon County are charged $20 for a computer monitor and $60 for each television.

Springfield-based Computer Banc refurbishes donated computers for low-income families and other needy individuals. The organization can be reached at 528-9506.
