Medical school plans annual research symposium

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine's 18th annual research symposium will feature a series of short medical research presentations by medical students, graduate students and residents from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the school's main building, 801 N. Rutledge St.

Fifteen graduate students, three medical students and three residents will give presentations on topics including oncology, hearing and diabetes. Fifteen poster presentations by graduate students also will be featured.

The program begins at 8 a.m. with presentations by residents in SIU's South Auditorium. The program continues through the day with medical student presentations at 9:30 a.m., graduate student presentations at 11 a.m. and judging of graduate students' posters at noon. Graduate student presentations resume at 1:30 p.m.

The symposium will conclude with a reception and awards presentation in the Pearson Museum at 4:15 p.m.
