TODD SMITH: This is my first blog entry that tracks my training in the Abe's Army program, which is in preparation for the Abe's Amble 10K this summer.
Thursday evening was the orientation session.
We began the orientation with a performance by Jessica Larson, Springfield High School senior. She created a song to kick-off Abe's Army using a George Strait tune. Click above to view the performance.
On Wednesday, I will give a full report on the group I will be assigned to and at what pace I will be expected to train.
We also learned Thursday that if we complete the 10K race, held on the final day of the Illinois State Fair, we will receive medals designed by Terry Clark. If I get one, it will be my first running medal, another reason to stay focused and keep my "eyes on the prize."
Check http://twitter.com/behealthyspfld updates Monday night on how my first night of training is going. Also keep an eye on behealthyspringfield.com on Wednesday for my column on what I learned.
